Andrea Von Hoveling: Una Educación Sexual Integral Permite Conocer y Ejercer Nuestros Derechos

Este mes quisimos conocer a una mujer que inspira, educa y promueve la sexualidad femenina desde la comprensión y escucha, principalmente al mundo adolescente.

Andrea es ginecóloga obstetra con la subespecialidad de ginecologia pediátrica y de la adolescencia. Esto le permite estar en una posición privilegiada para conversar sobre temas muy íntimos y hacerse una idea de las inquietudes sobre salud, corporalidad y sexualidad.

Por esta razón, se ha convertido en una activista en derechos sexuales y reproductivos, particularmente educación sexual y acceso a anticoncepción.

¿Cómo ves a las jóvenes hoy? Se habla de mujeres empoderadas, ¿se da eso también en la sexualidad femenina?

En parte sí y en parte no. Partamos por lo positivo: veo muchas adolescentes y mujeres jóvenes en sintonía con su cuerpo, que llegan a consultar ya sabiendo mucho, informadas, a resolver dudas o a hacerse sus chequeos pero ya sabiendo lo que quieren en cuanto a anticoncepción, salud menstrual y maternidad. Muchas mamás también llevan precozmente a sus hijas para que tengan una buena experiencia respecto a su desarrollo y pubertad. Lo que falta: todavía hay mucho machismo en las relaciones, se ve poca capacidad de llegar a acuerdos en cuanto a la responsabilidad de prevenir un embarazo -por ejemplo- y el peso de esa responsabilidad sigue recayendo principalmente en la mujer.

¿Crees que la sexualidad aún es un tema tabú en Chile?

Completamente. Hemos avanzado en algunas cosas, y ¡en buena hora! Cuesta encontrar gente que sea abiertamente homofóbica, por ejemplo. Pero, se siguen escuchando comentarios y "tallas" que dan a entender que una persona heterosexual es más bienvenida que una homosexual. O bien, nos ponemos tod@s colorad@s cuando hay que hablar de sexualidad a niñ@s y adolescentes, y l@s llenamos de frases del tipo "cuídate", "usa condón", pero no les damos las herramientas ni los conocimientos para que realmente puedan cuidarse. Es un contrasentido bien absurdo, que generalmente se explica por el hecho de que son temas que nos cuesta mucho abordar, por trancas y vergüenzas propias.

¿Ves preocupadas a las jóvenes de su cuidado personal y de salud?

Mucho. Y es de las cosas más gratificantes de mi trabajo, cuando llega una adolescente y su único motivo de consulta es conocer mejor su cuerpo y su fisiología. También veo una mayor apertura a una responsabilidad compartida, adolescentes que no tienen tapujos en decirle a su pareja que se hagan exámenes de infecciones de transmisión sexual. También ha sido muy bonito ver que, gracias a la información que se recibe a través de redes sociales, han empezado a ir a controles ginecológicos personas que antes no iban por un miedo profundo a que las trataran mal: personas pertenecientes a la diversidad sexogenérica, adolescentes que no cuentan con el apoyo de sus padres, mujeres de cuerpos grandes. Sin duda falta mucho, pero se ve un avance.

¿Qué te impulsa a trabajar con jóvenes cada día?

Creo que tiene mucho que ver con que recuerdo perfectamente, lo mal que lo pasé en mi adolescencia. Siento que es una etapa de la vida que se idealiza mucho pero, la verdad es que hay una tremenda tensión en las necesidades de definirte como persona, la exigencia de proyectarte como adulto cuando no tienes idea quién eres ni qué quieres, con un cuerpo en permanente cambio, impulsos -sexuales y otros- que emergen y aún no sabes controlar y, todo esto, rodeado de una sociedad a la que no entiendes. Transformarte en un lugar seguro, en que un/a adolescente te pueda expresar sus dudas, sus temores y, a la vez tener herramientas concretas para acoger como, por ejemplo, dar la tranquilidad de que la salud está bien, prevenir embarazos y contagios y, poder vivir sana y tranquilamente una esfera TAN relevante en la vida como es la sexualidad, es un lujo.

¿Qué le dirías a las generaciones que hoy tienen entre 50 y 65 años en retrospectiva? ¿Qué crees que han hecho bien y cuáles han sido sus debilidades con su sexualidad?

Creo que tienen el tremendo mérito de haberse atrevido a tomar las riendas de su maternidad con el uso de anticonceptivos, siendo que hace décadas había muchos más miedos y tabúes que hoy. El haber definido cuántos hijos querían tener y cuándo, permitió una crianza mucho más dedicada que cualquier generación previa. Siendo hija de esa generación, ¡lo agradezco enormemente!

Creo que lo único que les diría es que no se dejen espantar por los cambios y evoluciones que se ven hoy. Ver más gente expresando diversidad de identidades, de orientaciones sexuales, etc., no es más revolucionario que lo que hicieron ellas en su tiempo con temas como el control de la natalidad. Es una generación que está muy acostumbrada, por ejemplo, a comentarios y chistes homofóbicos, o sobre el cuerpo ajeno, y eso puede hacerlas muy inaccesibles a la vista de sus propios familiares. Se requiere una tremenda valentía durante la adolescencia para conocerse, reconocerse y darse a conocer en una sociedad muy hegemónica. Necesitamos que nuestras madres y abuelas nos acojan.

¿Qué política pública te gustaría impulsar para mejorar la salud y autocuidado de las mujeres?

De todas maneras y, sin dudarlo un segundo, la educación sexual integral. Es la única forma de estar más protegidas, conocer más y mejor nuestro cuerpo, nuestro desarrollo y poder conocer y ejercer todos nuestros otros derechos. Y esto, además, trasciende con mucho la problemática de las mujeres: protege a niñ@s, a las diversidades sexogenéricas y a la sociedad en general. Evidencia hay de sobra.

Y siguiendo en el mundo femenino, ¿qué joyas o accesorios Zazü eliges para tu día a día y por qué?

Siempre he sido fanática de los aros. Durante la pandemia estuvieron prohibidos, después sólo se podia usar algo que no sobrepasara el lóbulo de la oreja y cuando se relajaron las medidas, me encontré redescubriendo los aros más largos como cuando era chica y me llevaban a una feria artesanal, ¡jajajaja! Aún busco aros de largo medio, tienen que ser compatibles con la mascarilla que sigo usando al trabajar. Y el color turquesa me encanta porque lo encuentro muy veraniego.
